As usual, the not-only-lesbian cultural festival eLnadruhou (L2) is due to occur as one of the first entries in the Czech Republic's forthcoming festival season. Year 13 of the festival is organized by non-profit civic association eLnadruhou, which is dedicated primarily to the cause of lesbian, bisexual and transgendered women. However, as it lists the integration of sexual minorities into the mainstream society and presentation of the lesser-known aspects of these subcultures to the general public among its main goals, the festival strives to win the attention of all women regardless of their sexual preference along with GLBT-friendly people of all persuasions. Both the festival and the organization are financially supported by the Global Fund for Women (USA).

communism and the first independent lesbian organisation Musieon was founded in 1994,
which suggests that the community of lesbian women is quite young. The aim of this paper is
to address one aspect of development of lesbian and bisexual women?s community ? literary
activity - with a focus on genre of stories that were published in community magazines since
1994.

ABSTRACT
The main aim of the paper is to explore the post-communist development of (gay and) lesbian
community with a special focus on the role of the women activists. Other questions are how
identities emerged as communities were established, and how activism shapes and/or is shaped by
activists? identities. The research consisted of two main parts, the first part - a research based on
archival materials (community magazines, newspapers, publications etc.), and the second part -
interviews with community members (lesbian activists), deploying the oral history perspective.
The gay and lesbian community in Slovakia reached a tremendous progress after the fall of
communism, represented nowadays by several organisations, or having developed wide range of
projects and activities from socialising events through educational and consciousness-raising
activities focused on intra-community development towards introduction of a political agenda and
the entering of public space. Several women have played an enormously important role in this
process of building up the community and the rise of the gay and lesbian movement. While in
communism lesbian identities were unthinkable, with the development of community (especially the
separate lesbian community), lesbian identity/identities could emerge and later diversify. However,
the research also showed the weakness of community, e.g. a lack of personal sources or cooperation.
Regarding the diversification, some areas lacked recognition in community (e.g. bisexual
label/identity, transgender identities or butch/femme identities, social differences and ethnic issues).

| Are Slovak LGBTs proud enough for PRIDEs ?

This paper was originally written for Round Table that took place within Zagreb?s International PRIDE events at the end of June 2006. The main topic of the round table was Right to Freedom of Assembly and violence on Pride or Pride-like manifestations in Region of Central and Easter Europe. While some of the countries don?t have experience with PRIDEs, others have repeatedly faced either verball or sometimes even very violent physical attacks from extremist and radical groups such as religious and nationalist parties, or local hooligans (nationalist sports fans). Some countries are more free than other, still they face low self-esteem of their local Queer people. Some PRIDEs just fail to happen because of low interest (or fear to come out) of local queers to take part in them.
